The ‘Energy’ Sparkle!

Today has been a very busy day. Most days are but today I had energy!!! I think it was a combination of things which led to this exuberance of sparkle today. Firstly the weather. Yes it was cold and frosty but it was also bright and sunny. One of those days when you just want to be wrapped up warm and walking in the countryside. The second was music. Yesterday I bought ‘Blue Smoke’, The Best of Dolly Parton and I had it playing in the car. What fabulous songs. Some I remember from a long time ago and some I never heard before. Beautiful heartbreaking love gone wrong Country Soul, you can’t beat it.

Thirdly I had my hair done and I think every girl agrees that when you get your hair done, you feel on top of the world. Then I went shopping. Supermarkets are the bane of my life, I do not enjoy visiting the supermarket, but today, I was in double energy mode. I was through the first one in minutes with the necessities plus goodies in my trolley. I was even quicker in the second one and it was whilst I was heading to the car with my bags I realised I was full of energy. Me and Energy are not words I would usually put in the same sentence 😉 But I am very happy to be able to do so today.

We all have our stresses and pressures, problems and issues and we have to do the best we can. Days when our sparkle is twinkling on all cylinders are days to be enjoyed, treasured and shared. Whatever makes your day sparkle with energy, keep doing it, keep sharing it and keep enjoying it. Life is the most amazing wonderful thing and time is short. Sparkle as much as you can and don’t hold back.

Thank you for reading my blog ✨💕✨

Time to get healthy…again!

Well as you know I was on a mission before I made my wonderful trip to Rome, to lose some weight, feel fitter and not be feeling like I didn’t have any energy. For that few weeks period it had worked and yes I had lost a couple of pounds before I left and with the extra walking I had done before the trip, I did feel a lot more like walking around Rome.

In our hotel bathroom was a lovely, shiny, silver, electronic weighing scales. Oh dear!! Hadn’t I said that I was no longer going to be hopping on and off the scales to see if I had gained or lost an ounce? But this wasn’t real because I was on holiday and it was sitting there taunting me to ‘feel the fear and jump on anyway’.
I did. I wasn’t impressed. The weight I thought I had lost back home was back…Oh dear!!!!!

Well I was in Rome and I was going to eat pizza and pasta and drink wine and eat gelato. I walked for hours everyday sightseeing (see blog post My Roman Holiday) and although it was far too hot to eat during the day I seemed to make up for this lack of food in the evenings. Every morning I called to Pepy’s Bar and had one of their Fitness Breakfasts which consisted of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, cereal and a cappuccino. It set me up for the day. I can’t resist tomato and mozzarella which I did eat my fair share of during the four days. During my time in Rome I appeared to eat every six hours during the day. Evening meals were heavenly and I ate much later than I do at home…when in Rome and all that!! I weighed myself before I left, I was the same weight as when I arrived. I think that was a good result.

I have been back two weeks and I have restarted my healthy eating plan, I have much more willpower than before.
I am eating fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, pasta, potatoes, rice, couscous, cheese, bread, fish and poultry and in two weeks I am already feeling a lot more energetic within myself. I have lost some weight but the main gain for me is the internal buzz I appear to have which I can only assume is down to the lack of sugars and processed fatty foods. My mind is alive with ideas, inspirations and thoughts and now my task is to keep up the healthy eating, harness the energy, organise my time and put these ideas into action.

I’ll keep you posted!! Thank you for sharing the journey with me.

Crunchy Crisps.

I love crisps! Yes, almost as much as shortbread, sometimes even more so. I had acquired the habit of eating a packet of crisps every day. Sometimes two – one with a sandwich at lunchtime and another mid-afternoon. I love everything from the anticipation of opening the packet of crisps to holding the folded over and perhaps over cooked crisp to the actual crunching of the crisp. Crunching of the crisp for me is perhaps the ultimate pleasure of eating crisps.

The vending machine in the office has a plentiful supply of crisps. Different brands, varying flavours and both high or low fat selections. Every time I entered the kitchen today for water those crisps kept tapping on the glass of the vending machine to attract my attention. It was as if there were a flashing neon sign pointing at my favourite flavour. Things got bad about 3:30 pm, I could almost taste them…for at least five minutes I thought of nothing else but releasing a bag of crisps to the freedom of my desk. The phone rang…I was distracted.

4:30 pm and there was a sudden rush of work to do…I had the munchies. I also had a banana. I didn’t want a banana, I wanted curled over, over cooked and crunchy crisps. I reached for my handbag. The banana eyed me cautiously…’is she really going to choose crisps over me’…I felt guilty as I reached for my purse, opened it and took the money out…I stood up..ready to walk to the kitchen and claim my prize.

Somehow, and even as I write this I can’t explain how the banana won, but it did. Day four has been the most successful yet. Yes, it has only been four days but already I feel I have a little more energy. Whether that is in my mind, my body or both, I don’t care because it feels good!
